The Indiana Fever recently squared off against the Dallas Wings. Now, with both teams trying to make the most out of the game, the affair was a banger. Unfortunately, it was the Indiana Fever that ended up on the receiving end of things. And after losing the game by a narrow margin of 80-81, it was Sophie Cunningham who seemed utterly frustrated with the officials.
Now, officiating in the WNBA has always been a topic of discussion. Especially in the current season, there have been a lot of complaints regarding the same. And once again, it was Caitlin Clark’s Fever who felt that they missed out on some important calls during the game. This time, Cunningham accused the officials of favoring Paige Bueckers.
Sophie Cunningham Expresses Frustrations Over Paige Bueckers’ Calls
The game was a crucial one for both sides. While on one hand, Fever wanted to consolidate their number 5 position. However, on the contrary, Bueckers and her team looked to try and salvage some pride from their faltering season. Thankfully for the Wings, Bueckers and co managed to pull through, but it surely did come at a cost.
Soon after the game, Cunningham accused the officials of giving favorable treatment to the Wings’ rookie. What was even more interesting was the fact that the 28-year-old was also called for a flagrant foul against Bueckers. And all of these incidents made the Missouri-born lash out on the ‘Show Me Something’ podcast.
“I love Paige to death, do not get me wrong. I think she’s a hell of a player and would love to play with her one day, but those refs were giving her every whistle last night. You literally couldn’t touch her, couldn’t touch her,” Cunningham said (via YouTube/Show Me Something Sophie Cunningham & West Wilson).

“I love Paige to death…but those refs were giving her every freaking whistle last night like you literally couldn’t touch her. That shit is so annoying to me. If you’re gonna do that then give it to our guards. I just hate the inconsistency.” pic.twitter.com/V6JgKSvbbb
The Fever star also pointed out how the officials did not maintain a similar approach when it came to the Indiana players. Cunningham further went on to praise Bueckers’ impeccable game. But she also stated how much favoring from the officials would become a headache for teams playing against Bueckers. Now, despite being vocal about the officiating, Cunningham must be a bit more cautious. After all, she was recently fined a huge amount for speaking against the officials.

Sophie Cunningham Opens Up About Her $1500 Fine
The Fever star has been the center of attraction ever since coming to Indiana. And one of the main reasons for the same has been her unapologetic attitude. Cunningham does not hold back or sugarcoat her feelings. And this is exactly the approach that landed her in trouble. In a recent segment of the ‘Show Me Something’ podcast, the 28-year-old spoke against the officiating. And as a result, she was fined a whopping $1500.

“They fined me $1,500. I’m like, ‘This is just the beginning.’ I’m like, ‘You’re kidding.’ They email our GM, and she pulls me aside and says, ‘Sophie, I’ve got to talk to you,’ and this is in front of everybody. I’m like, ‘What did I do now?’ And just smiled and she goes, ‘Hey, they’re going to fine you again,‘“ Cunningham said on the podcast’s second episode (Via X/nosyone4).
Surely, the response was pretty much Cunningham-like. Looking at her reply, it did not seem she was bothered much by the fine. And pretty much immediately, she spoke about the Paige Bueckers incident again. Thus, with Cunningham taking it on against the WNBA officials, fans are eager to see what happens next.
