Sophie Cunningham has been one of the biggest stars for the Indiana Fever. Joining the team this season, Cunningham immediately became a crowd favorite. While her friendship with Caitlin Clark blossomed, she also took up the role of an enforcer. But, unfortunately, her season came to a sudden halt after she was ruled out with an MCL injury. Watching her team play from the sidelines, the Fever star had a lot of emotions going on. Cunningham blamed the refereeing for the Fever’s semifinal loss. And now, she has pointed out how she is least interested in the WNBA finals.
Cunningham has been through a lot of emotional rollercoasters this season. With Clark out, it was on her to take Fever through. However, her injury stunted her progress, and now the 29-year-old is looking to take a break.
Sophie Cunningham Wants A Break From WNBA
The WNBA finals are going on. And after securing a hard-fought victory in the semis, the Las Vegas Aces are looking like a champion side. Facing off against the Phoenix Mercury, the likes of A’Ja Wilson and co. haven’t given anything away up until now. While they led 2-0, a 90-88 victory meant that Becky Hammon’s team is now 3-0 up. Surprisingly, Cunningham has no interest in any of these whatsoever.

In a recent episode of the ‘Show Me Something’ podcast, host West Wilson asked her about the finals. “I haven’t watched it. I haven’t watched a lick of the WNBA. I don’t know what’s going on… I need a cleanse. In the past, I’ve watched the Finals, But this year, with all the injuries and everything our team went through, I just really need a break. Good luck to whoever’s gonna win. I don’t care who wins this Finals,” said Cunningham.
Surely, the Fever star has a lot to talk about. However, apart from her frustrating season, Cunningham is also frustrated with the WNBA’s pay structure. While Cunningham criticized Cathy Engelbert’s comments about Caitlin Clark, she also led the charge for a fair share of revenue in the WNBA.

Sophie Cunningham Makes Her Feelings Known As Equal Pay Frustrations Grow
Cunningham has been an active advocate for equal pay for the WNBA athletes. Moreover, with the CBA negotiations currently underway, the situation is quite sensitive. Napheesa Collier recently lashed out at Engelbert and called the WNBA leadership the ‘worst in the world.’ And now, adding fuel to the fire, Cunningham has spoken over the meagre amount of revenue share that the league offers its players. She even referred to the 7% share as the “most disrespectful percentage.”

“I think all of us are in our agreement that our salaries should be tied to the business that we bring in. And it is not at all. It is the most disrespectful percentage that any league has ever seen,” Cunningham said.
Surely, the situation has become quite complicated at the moment. With a lot going on, fans now wait to see how soon normalcy returns.
