Sophie Cunningham has become one of the biggest draws for the Indiana Fever. Joining the Fever in early 2025, the 29-year-old has instantly become a fan favorite.
In a very short time, Cunningham struck a great relationship with Caitlin Clark and also became the ‘enforcer.’ And that’s not all. In the absence of Clark, it was the 29-year-old who took on the mantle of leading the team before suffering a brutal MCL tear.
Naturally, considering all the above-mentioned points, the Fever fans do not want the star to leave Indiana. And while Cunningham just dropped a major hint about her WNBA future, the Fever star has also clarified the conditions under which she would stay back.
What Would It Take For Sophie Cunningham To Stay Back In Indiana?
Cunningham has elevated herself to an elite level this year. Outside of her WNBA engagements, the Fever star is making a lot of noise, too. Only recently, Cunningham made her ‘Good Morning America’ debut.

Now, speaking in a recent episode of the ‘Show Me Something’ podcast, the 29-year-old was asked about her future with the Fever. And much to the concerns of the fans, she did not sound confident enough.
Cunningham pointed out that she will be looking for a larger, multi-year contract to settle down with her next team. “I think the next team I play for I want a bigger contract, so I can then buy a house and be homey and cozy,” said Cunningham.

Sophie Cunningham just said on her podcast she is looking for a bigger multi year contract so she can buy a house. Take care of your fellow Missouri girl @AmberLCox and make our fan favorite Sophie a Fever for life by paying her what she is worth. We can’t lose her. pic.twitter.com/969Cbnt3ge

Upon hearing this, Cunningham’s co-host stated that it might be the Liberty or Minnesota next. Surprisingly, the 29-year-old teased, “It could be anywhere.” Surely, the signs are clear. If the Fever is to retain their ‘enforcer,’ they will need to bring in the big bucks. Meanwhile, the team has been quite supportive of their star guard.
Indiana Fever Is Still Helping Sophie Cunningham With Her Rehab
Cunningham was in top form before her injury. Unfortunately, back in August 2025, she suffered a terrible MCL tear that forced her to sit out the entire league. The 29-year-old dropped averages of 8.6 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 1.2 assists per game.

And while she is recovering from her injury, Cunningham stated that Fever is still helping her with the same. Now, this is quite unique as Cunningham is technically no longer a part of Indiana.
“Technically, I’m not signed to Indiana. So, I’m still working with them up to a certain point and then if I re-sign, then I can continue to work with them. But I have Frank out here who’s doing it and then Todd and Maria are doing it back in Indiana,” said Cunningham.
Thus, there are a lot of talks going around regarding where Cunningham is headed next. With fans urging her to re-sign with the Fever, everyone now waits to see what happens next.
