The CBA discussions have been all over the place. Instead of wrapping up the deal, the WNBA and the WNBPA are drifting farther away from a conclusion. The February 2 meeting ended with another promise for a constructive proposal from the league. Sophie Cuningham was not happy with the ‘slow’ progress.
Earlier, answering a fan question about her next destination, Cunningham raised a question over the possibility of the 2026 season only. Though she had hope after the Monday meeting, the player recently thrashed the Commissioner, Cathy Engelbert, over the progress.

The Fever forward was on her ‘Show Me Something’ podcast, where she spoke about the current hot topic. The players’ association stayed firm on its demands, and the league is finding it difficult to match them with ‘appropriate’ commercials.
Talking on the subject, Cunningham highlighted that there is hope to see things moving as they haven’t been moving at all. Pointing a finger at the WNBA commissioner, she said, “Any time you are in a position of leadership, yes, but just like to influence and empower other people, for some reason our league doesn’t do that.”

She challenged the commissioner to go on social media platforms and show faith in the league and players. The former Missouri star added that both sides are frustrated. She mentioned that if the league agrees to the players’ demands, it will have the best players back on the floor.

Playing in 20 games for the title contender Indiana side, the forward was impactful on the floor. While she took on extra responsibilities in the team, she averaged 8.6 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 1.2 assists per game. She also had career-best shooting percentages for the Fever team.
Showing her love for the team’s staff, she handed out a bottle of Silver Oak wine to every Fever staff member as a surprise, thanking them for their service. “I’m surprising kind of everyone who works so hard behind the scenes this offseason with some Silver Oak wine,” Cunningham said before handing out the gifts.

The Indiana Fever fans and Caitlin Clark are urging the franchise to re-sign Cunningham in the upcoming season. But now, with uncertainty over the season, it’s interesting to see how the league proceeds first with its CBA terms and then how franchises react to them.
