Multiple attributes make Sophie Cunningham one of the most loved players in the WNBA. With her stunning looks, engaging gameplay, and fierce attitude, her softer side and kind heart also attract many fans. Cunningham even topped Google’s 2025 athlete searches, surpassing Caitlin Clark and Paige Buckers.
Although the star often shows her ‘big heart’ through her actions, she recently made a grand gesture towards military personnel and their families.

Sophie Cunningham With Special Gesture For Military Personnel
The 29-year-old star was out of action in the closing stages of the 2025 WNBA season. But now she will be back on the court, not playing, but organizing her annual basketball event.
The star organizes a tournament for female athletes and will run for three days. In the 2026 edition, the Sophie Cunningham Classic games will start from January 9 to January 11. In celebration of Military Appreciation Day on January 9 and First Responders Day on January 10, the Fever forward offered a 50% discount to military personnel and their families.
The ticket prices were $10, and now, with Cunningham’s initiative, they will be $5 for the people in services. Bob Burchard Court at Southwell Complex, Columbia College will host the games.

This is not the first time the former Missouri star has shown a grand gesture towards society. During the US food charity dinner, Cunningham’s interactions with the people won over many fans who urged the Fever team to sign the star on a multi-year contract.
While the player took great initiative in her basketball event and even during the Gainbridge-sponsored event, her future with the Fever franchise remains unclear on the work front.
Sophie Cunningham’s Uncertain Future with Indiana Fever
The CBA negotiation may be falling apart, extending the dates for the expansion drafts and free agency signings, and it’s also casting uncertainty over a few players’ future with their current employers. As for the Fever forward, the Indiana franchise will have a chance to protect five players ahead of the expansion draft (since two new franchises are entering the league).
Many media houses have predicted the list of protected players for the 2025 semifinalists, and sadly, Sophie Cunningham’s name is not on many of these lists.

With that, the Toronto Tempo or Portland Fire will have a chance to sign the versatile star in the expansion draft, and even if they pass on the opportunity, the player might not resign with the Fever, given that the front office chose not to ‘protect’ her.
