The Indiana Fever’s injury list is growing with each passing day. It all started with Caitlin Clark having some significant issues with her groin. And despite missing 20 games now, no return timeline has been revealed yet. And Clark is not alone. The likes of Sydney Colson and Aari McDonald are also out with ACL and a broken foot, respectively. Surely, with the team already having major setbacks, another injury would come as a catastrophic blow to the side. And with Sophie Cunningham, that is exactly what happened.
Playing against the Connecticut Sun, the Indiana Fever had a phenomenal victory. Unfortunately, the celebrations were pretty much muted owing to the tensions surrounding Cunningham’s injury. And with sports doctors chiming in, Fever’s tensions are likely to be elevated further.
Sophie Cunningham Likely To Have A Torn ACL As Per Doctor’s Report
As the Fever faced off against the Sun, Cunningham was expected to play a vital role in the game. However, during the last phase of the second quarter, the 29-year-old had a nasty tussle with Bria Hartley. Clutching her right knee, Cunningham immediately went down and looked in significant distress. And analyzing her injury, sports director Brian Sutterer had foreshadowed a grim possibility.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Sutterer predicted that the 29-year-old might have torn her ACL. He further explained that the manner in which the Fever guard landed and the pressure on the knee might have caused the tendons to tear.
“We can see a forced valgus load, where a player falls into the outside of their knee, pushes it inward, and that can cause enough stress to tear the ACL. I’ll admit, just the impact and the positioning of her leg, to me, did not look quite as significant for something like this,” said Sutterer.

However, there is still a ray of hope left for the Fever fans. The star guard’s official MRI report has not yet arrived. She will be going under the scanner on Monday. Meanwhile, soon after Cunningham was helped off the court, her sister lashed out at the officials.
Lindsey Cunningham Asks WNBA To Provide Better Officials To Protect Athletes’ Health
The murmurs about the WNBA officials have been persistent throughout the season. And even Cunningham has been fined a hefty sum of $1500 for her statements against the officials. And the topic of poor officiating resurfaced further after the 29-year-old’s injury. Her sister, Lindsey Cunningham, took to social media and went off against the officials.
“@WNBA maybe you should focus less on fining players for commenting on your poor officiating & more about hiring officials that are able to call a consistent game and protect your athletes. Pathetic. Praying for you Sophie,” Lindsey wrote.
