The Indiana Fever has been a real one this season. This means their players and head coach have been pouring all their will on the court, even if that comes in the form of Caitlin Clark getting fined for making comments on the WNBA referee.
The rookie sensation, sidelined by a groin injury since July, couldn’t resist celebrating her team’s grit on Instagram. While reposting a fan’s “refs couldn’t stop us” line after their Game 3 thriller over Atlanta, the Fever rookie had the league coming to her with a fine slap. However, her partner in crime, Sophie Cunningham, wants to start a GoFundMe campaign for her.
Sophie Cunningham Has Unique Idea To Waive Caitlin Clark’s WNBA Fine
As the Fever gear up for their next semifinal showdown with the Las Vegas Aces, Clark and Cunningham are the team’s top two superfans and cheerleaders. Despite the duo keeping the morale high with their off-court tactics, they sometimes get in trouble.

The fine stemmed from Clark getting a little too easy on the social media platform after Indiana’s 87-85 upset clincher on September 18. However, her teammate has gotten her back in, easing her dollar burden.
“that’s gonna really break the bank for her. starting a GoFundMe now!” Sophe replied to Clark’s X (formerly Twitter post), revealing she got fined.

However, Cunningham is no stranger to WNBA fines herself. She best knows the league’s quick hand with penalties for ref talk. Despite all this, the Indiana fanbase couldn’t afford any more trouble for their team. Since most of their frontliners sit on the sidelines, and some even face fines for staying away from the wood court.
Sophie Cunningham Knows A Thing Or Two About WNBA Fines
Sophie Cunningham’s no rookie when it comes to WNBA fines for ref gripes. She’s racked up a few this year. Back in late July, she dropped $500 for a TikTok lip-sync to Sabrina Carpenter’s ‘Manchild,’ captioning it with a shady “@ some refs” that called out inconsistent calls. However, she shrugged it off on socials with a bold posting.
“I got fined $500 for this TikTok. idk why this is funny to me. Like ok, you got it bud! Cause there’s not more important things to be worried about with our league right now,” she wrote.
At 28 and in her sixth season, she feels the sting more intensely than Clark’s one-time $200 slap. Just some time ago, Cunningham revealed a $1,500 hit for blasting officials on her new podcast “Show Me Something.”
