There are multiple rumors surrounding the Indiana Fever players being top targets for WNBA teams. Many players have yet to confirm their decisions publicly, and some have even cast doubts over their future with the franchise.
One such star is Sophie Cunningham, as she opened up about her following season plans on her podcast. In her statement, Cunningham hinted at leaving the Indiana Fever this offseason. A WNBA analyst adds some more factors that would make this departure more feasible.
Analyst Casts Doubt Over Sophie Cunningham’s Return To Indiana Fever
Even though fans want to see the Indiana Fever use the same roster for the 2026 season after their extraordinary performance in recent seasons, a few departures are possible. One of them could be the former Missouri star, who became a fan favorite in just one season, but has her conditions to return to the lineup.

According to the star’s recent statements, she is seeking a multi-year contract. Adding to her demand, analyst Robin Lundberg mentions that a few points would make her return a bit difficult.
As he said, “her (Sophie Cunningham) celebrity probably exceeds her slot on a roster as far as where she’s evaluated, meaning she’s like an upper-level role player as far as a basketball player, but a superstar as far as branding and all that stuff goes.”

While the 29-year-old holds superstar status in the league, she is also an impactful player on the floor. As per the analyst, the Fever will need to check for a cost-effective option in the current situation, which depends on the CBA deal.
“You also have to do the cost-benefit analysis of what’s the length of the contract, what’s the value of the contract that you’re willing to give her relative to what the rest of the market looks like, and who else could be available,” Lundberg concluded.
While the talks about her next franchise are still going on, the player is currently undergoing a tiring rehab process and might have some exciting news for the fans.
