Sophie Cunningham became an instant hit with the Indiana Fever fans. Be it her ‘enforcer’ tag on the hardcourt or her close sisterhood with Caitlin Clark, the fans loved them all. In fact, owing to her towering presence in the team, Fever fans urged the team to re-sign Cunningham. However, despite a strong start, the 29-year-old’s season derailed after a brutal knee injury.
Back in August 2025, Cunningham tore her MCL, forcing her to miss the rest of the season. Now, as she makes efforts to regain her fitness, the 29-year-old revealed some key contributions from the Indiana Fever.
Sophie Cunningham Gets Significant Backing From Indiana Fever Despite Entering Free Agency
In her maiden season for the Fever, Cunningham averaged 8.6 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 1.2 assists per game. Now, as the season came to a close, Cunningham entered free agency. And despite popular demand, it remains uncertain whether Cunningham will re-sign with Indiana. But that does not mean the Fever front office does not care for their ‘enforcer.’ In a recent episode of the ‘Show Me Something’ podcast, the WNBA star stated that Fever is still helping her with her MCL recovery.

“Technically, I’m not signed to Indiana. So, I’m still working with them up to a certain point and then if I re-sign, then I can continue to work with them. But I have Frank out here who’s doing it and then Todd and Maria are doing it back in Indiana,” said Cunningham.
Meanwhile, speaking about Fever, they only have three players under contract, one of whom is Caitlin Clark. And while Indiana will look to reconstruct their roster, it will be interesting to see whether it incorporates Cunningham into the mix. Meanwhile, the 29-year-old recently pointed out one key feature of handling conflicts in the Fever locker room.

Sophie Cunningham Details Unique Way Indiana Fever Handles Locker Room Conflict
This year has been tough for the Fever. Firstly, with the equal pay issues coming into the spotlight, the players’ mental turmoil was significant. While Cunningham is leading the charge for WNBA players’ fair share of revenue, the Fever had more to deal with this past season. With Clark, Sydney Colson, Aari McDonald, and Cunningham all sidelined by injuries, the team was severely depleted. As a result, the Fever suffered some unfortunate losses, which could have led to a chaotic situation in the locker room. However, according to Cunningham, Fever has a unique way of managing these conflicts.

“Honestly, no. That never happens. Literally, never happens. And like, it barely happens on the court. I think probably what I did this year is that most that has been done in year. But yeah, that’s just not how we roll on our side,” said Cunningham.
Thus, it is quite evident that the 29-year-old has developed a strong bond with Fever. Now, as the upcoming season awaits, fans cannot wait to see what comes next.
