It’s all smiles in the Indiana Fever locker room at the moment. The players delivered on the big night against the tough opponents, and a comeback win was a solid statement nevertheless. The match’s star was Sophie Cunningham, who came off the bench and delivered a double-double performance.
The jubilant mood continued at the press conference, too. The 28-year-old forward was so happy with her performance that she made fun of her ‘hard fall’ on the floor, leaving everyone in splits.
Sophie Cunningham Was All Smiles After Injury Scare
Before the game, HC Stephanie White was happy to have her complete team, healthy and together. But right into the game against the Atlanta Dream, the former Mercury star was close to getting a serious head injury. The player seemed unfazed by that and later shared the moment in a post-match press conference.
“I laugh when I’m in pain…I just tried to get a jump ball, and [Jones is] a good-sized post, and she is strong as hell… I give her all the credit, I wish I had that strength,” Cunningham said in a press conference (Via X/@Brian_Haenchen)
The ‘dangerous play’ happened when the Fever forward fell to the ground following a jump ball against Brionna Jones. The Dream forward also lost her balance and landed close to her head. While she shoved it with a good laugh, answering the media, the Indiana Fever needs all its players healthy to challenge for a WNBA title this season.

Though her defensive plays helped the side, her offensive game was a big question mark during her time with the team. Her strong game against the Atlanta Dream was enough to silence the critics for a while. She had a game-high 10 rebounds and made clutch baskets to help the side recover from an early deficit.

She scored 13 points in the second half (6 in the third quarter and seven in the fourth) to fuel the comeback. Midway into the third quarter, her three-pointer gave the Indiana Fever a one-point lead with under five minutes to go. The next ranged shot from the Missouri star put them in control entering the fourth quarter.
Before the fixture against Griner and co, she averaged around five points and four rebounds per game. And now a double-double performance would give her some confidence.
