Sophie Cunningham has been emerging as one of the top stars in the WNBA realm at the moment. Playing for the Indiana Fever, her friendship with Caitlin Clark made headlines. Her popularity also reached a level where fans faked injuries to get a hug from Cunningham. Add to that the 29-year-old’s aggression on the hardwood.
In fact, Cunningham’s antics on the court also earned her the nickname, ‘enforcer.’ And all of this combined has led to the Fever guard’s popularity soar upwards. Having found herself in one of the most elite brackets this year, the Fever star had a hilarious reaction.
Sophie Cunningham Makes It To The Most-Searched Top 10
As the year 2025 comes to an end, Google has released the list of its Top 10 most searched athletes. And much to the Fever fans’ delight, Cunningham made it to the elite list. However, a closer look at the names will reveal that the 29-year-old’s achievement was quite remarkable.
With the likes of Cooper Flagg and Shedeur Sanders making the list, the absence of female names was striking. However, standing tall amidst the male athletes was Cunningham. As the top three spots were claimed by Sanders, Terence Crawford, and Flagg, Cunningham came in at number 7, just below Jaxson Dart.
Now, while this was something of immense pride for the WNBA star, Cunningham posted the same on her Instagram story. But in typical Sophie Cunningham manner, she added a hilarious twist to it.
Captioning her story, the 29-year-old wrote, “hi boys.”

Surely, this was a reference to the fact that she was the only female athlete among the male stars. Now, with her rising popularity, it is evident that the WNBA is also receiving significant attention. Unfortunately, with things getting complicated with the CBA negotiations, Cunningham teased a possible WNBA exit if Project B works out.

Sophie Cunningham Ready To Leave WNBA For Project B?
The situation with the WNBA is concerning at the moment. As the players fight for equal pay alongside a fair revenue-sharing deal, the league authorities appear uninterested in the same.
Thus, with uncertainties looming large, the likes of Cunningham have joined the Saudi-backed Project B. And recently, she stated that she might not return to the WNBA if Project B proves to be a hit.
“You just get cultured, it’s fun. And I’ve missed it, but I also don’t want to play around. My body can’t handle it. I have other things I want to do that I’m interested in, and so this just gives me the perfect opportunity to go play, get cultured, see the world, but also be able to come home and still experience what I want to experience,” said Cunningham.
Thus, as of now, things are looking rosy for the Fever star. Fans will now want to see what happens next.
