The Indiana Fever has been plagued by injuries this season. When the league began, the team looked like a champion side on paper. Unfortunately, as days went by, the Fever stars succumbed to injuries one after another. Now, watching a depleted side play surely makes the fans sad. But as it turns out, sitting on the sidelines is even more frustrating for a player. And Sophie Cunningham is a prime example of the same.
The Indiana Fever is currently in a good position. With their recent win over the Sparks, the playoff push is looking quite sorted. Yet, their premier stars are itching to get back to the action soon. Earlier, Caitlin Clark addressed the toughest challenges of her injury-filled season. Now, it’s Cunningham’s turn to narrate how annoying she feels, unable to contribute as her team pushes for the playoffs.
Sophie Cunningham Can’t Take It From Sidelines
Indiana Fever vs. Los Angeles Sparks was quite a close game. With both team giving it their all, the momentum swung like a pendulum. Now then, at one point during the game, Fever was trailing by three points. And right at that moment, the ‘enforcer’ was feeling the heat. She was compelled to watch from the stands owing to her MCL injury. And surely, the 28-year-old was dying to get out into the middle and get some action herself.

“is it always this stressful being a fan? I can’t take it… can’t sit still,” wrote Cunningham on her X, formerly known as Twitter account.

Unfortunately, despite feeling utterly frustrated, the 28-year-old has nothing much to do. Having suffered a brutal injury, the Fever star will likely not return before the next season. And with the Fever likely going to the playoffs, this will be a fatal blow. Soon after Cunningham’s injury, her mom addressed Bria Hartley as ‘mean.’ And that was not all, her sister too lashed out at the WNBA officiating.

Sophie Cunningham’s Sister Calls Out ‘Pathetic’ WNBA Officiating
Back in mid-August, the Indiana Fever registered a 99-93 win against the Connecticut Sun. Unfortunately, the celebrations were pretty much muted due to Cunningham’s injury. Going to get the ball, she tussled with Bria Hartley. And immediately after the impact, the 28-year-old went down. As she lay on the hardwood, the Fever star could be seen grimacing in pain. Clutching her knees, the ‘enforcer’ stayed down until medical professionals helped her off the court.

Quite expectedly, such a scene did not sit well with her sister, Lindsey Cunningham. Taking to her X, formerly known as Twitter account, Lindsey lashed at the officiating saying, “@WNBA maybe you should focus less on fining players for commenting on your poor officiating & more about hiring officials that are able to call a consistent game and protect your athletes. Pathetic. Praying for you Sophie.”
Now then, the WNBA officiating has been a cause of headaches for a lot of teams. However, with the frustrations growing, fans would wait to see if the league steps in or not.
