The WNBA is at a standstill at the moment. As the players protested for a long time for equal pay, the league seemed to be paying no heed to the same. And now, after three failed CBA deadlines, the athletes have unitedly refused to sign any contracts.
In the meantime, the WNBA did propose a couple of contract offers to the players. But on both occasions, the WNBPA rejected the same, as Cathy Engelbert and co. seemingly could not satisfy the conditions that the players demanded. Speaking on the same, Indiana Fever star Sophie Cunningham had an interesting take.

Sophie Cunningham Shares Honest Opinion On The CBA Stalemate
Back on January 9, 2026, the CBA deadline expired for the third time without a solution. And soon after, the WNBPA decided not to agree to any more deadline extensions. Such a decision is likely to affect the upcoming season significantly. As things stand at a standstill, the offseason free agency has been delayed by months.
If such a situation continues, there would be some serious questions about whether the upcoming season will start on time. And amid all this chaos, the likes of Cunningham are not hiding their feelings. Reacting to the tumultuous situation the league is in, the Fever star lashed out at the front office, calling them ‘dumb.’
“Our CBA is so dumb right now, that it’s heading towards a lockout. No. Honestly, nothing. We get weekly e-mails from the PA side of things, and it’s just so dumb. Dumb, dumb, dumb,” said Cunningham.

The players have asked for at least 30% share of the revenue. But the league does not seem to be okay with the proposal. As the WNBA wanted to propose a moratorium on the players, Breanna Stewart swiftly made her voice heard.
Taking a stand for the players, the WNBA star asked everyone not to sign any contracts without fully understanding the consequences.

Putting her words to paper, Kendra Andrews stated, “Breanna Stewart said that while qualifying offers may be going out, there’s an understanding from all of the players that no one should sign anything because any contracts signed would fall under the current CBA numbers, not the ones they are fighting for in the current negotiations.”
Liberty star and WNBPA VP Breanna Stewart said the players' association and WNBA will not agree to another collective bargaining agreement extension after the deadline passes Friday.
