Sophie Cunningham turned 29 on August 16, and her first day after the birthday celebrations was not what she expected it to be. Starting the game against the ‘rough’ Connecticut Sun team, the forward injured her knees in the second quarter.
She left the game and did not return following early inspections. Still after the game, Cunningham, looking to set an example as a fighter, shared a post drawing reactions and comments from her teammates and the franchise.
Sophie Cunningham’s Post After Injury
Head Coach Stephanie White was shocked to see her start forward in pain. She ran towards her to check as the referee stopped the play after the Fever forward stayed on the floor holding her knee. During the press conference, she mentioned the horrific scene and the thoughts running through her mind at the time.

Yes, it was an ugly scene, especially for the Fever fans, who now have four players on the recovery table. But Sophie Cunningham, known for her fighting spirit and never-give-up attitude, shared a post on Instagram.
Even though she shared her August memories, the post means a lot to the Fever fanbase and teammates. It indicates that she might not be seriously injured and could return early.

Sophie’s Sister Blames ‘Pathetic’ WNBA
Even though the player showed support to the team, hours after facing injury, her sister, Lindsey Cunningham, was angry about the physicality and foul. She took her frustration out on the league, sharing a fiery post on ‘X’
“@WNBA maybe you should focus less on fining players for commenting on your poor officiating & more about hiring officials that are able to call a consistent game and protect your athletes. Pathetic. Praying for you. @sophaller,” She wrote in her post.

The Fever forward also reposted her sister’s tweet, not letting the league off the hook. HC Stephanie White, who had already spoken about the physicality in her interviews, will now have to deal with another star player’s injury.
