Sophie Cunningham is currently sitting out nursing an injury. Suffering an MCL injury, the 29-year-old will have to watch the rest of the season from the sidelines. And while doing so, she has witnessed some incidents that are making the Fever guard pretty much frustrated. One among them is surely Lexie Hull’s injury. Hull recently shared a scary injury update following a brutal collision with Gabby Williams. And speaking about the same, Cunningham did seem too pleased.
The Fever’s star guard has always shown her feelings openly. And her enforcer role is also quite famous in the WNBA realm. Thus, when Cunningham spotted Hull getting fouled repeatedly, she had plenty to say about WNBA officiating. And Hull instantly approved of the same.
Lexie Hull Was All Love For Sophie Cunningham’s Black Eye Injury Breakdown
Cunningham recently took to Instagram and had a candid take on the whole ’double blackeye’ situation of Hull. The Fever guard initially highlighted Hull’s interaction with Kayla McBride. She explained how McBride, despite being a star shooter, had used some dirty tactics. Showing the replays, the Fever star pointed out how McBride had purposefully elbowed Hull in the face. More shockingly, the officials called no foul despite the Fever star going down immediately on impact.

“And so there was a jump ball and they called a foul, whatever. And then after the play, McBride, who is a hell of a shooter, she’s been shooting the s**t out of it. She’s a great, great player. So I’m not going after her in any way. She had an extra movement after ball and just elbowed and nailed Lexi right in the fu**ing face. It was bad,” said Cunningham.
Meanwhile, she also drew attention towards how Hull had a brutal collision with Gabby Williams that made things further complicated for the Fever star. And looking at such a detailed analysis from her fellow mate, Hull seemed utterly pleased. She immediately took to the comments section and wrote, “I’ll show my kids this one day. Thanks for the recap.”

Meanwhile, Cunningham also pointed out sarcastically that if she had nailed the elbow on any other player, the referees would have immediately had her ejected. Now, that is quite a brave sentence to say, especially since the WNBA fined Cunningham for a third time.
Sophie Cunningham Got Multiple Fines For Speaking Up
Fans and analysts have put WNBA officiating under the microscope several times this season. And the 29-year-old Fever star has not minced words in calling out the poor officiating. In one of the earlier episodes of the ‘Show Me Something’ podcast, Cunningham lashed out at the officials. Unfortunately, that did not turn out too well for her. Following the incident, the WNBA fined her $1500.

Reacting to the same, Cunningham replied, “They fined me $1,500. I’m like, ‘This is just the beginning.’ I’m like, ‘You’re kidding.’ They email our GM, and she pulls me aside and says, ‘Sophie, I’ve got to talk to you,’ and this is in front of everybody. I’m like, ‘What did I do now?’ And just smiled and she goes, ‘Hey, they’re going to fine you again,‘“ Cunningham said.
Surely, the 29-year-old enforcer is creating quite the headlines even while sitting out of the game. Now, fans will be eager to see how things pan out for her in the upcoming season.
