The Indiana Fever had dreams of chasing the WNBA title while beginning their campaign this year. Unfortunately, with a lot of injuries coming in, the dreams have surely suffered a setback. After all, losing its main and backup point guards all at once is not something that a team would want. But now that the crisis has hit the Fever, head coach Stephanie White is trying to keep a calm head.
Initially, it was Caitlin Clark. The first-choice guard for the Fever had a fantastic rookie season. However, with several injuries hampering her progress in the current season, Clark is still doubtful of her return. Not only that, but Fever has recently lost the services of Aari McDonald and Sydney Colson, too. This has led to a crisis within the team that even White feels ‘awful’ about.
Stephanie White Keeps An Optimistic Outlook Despite ‘Awful’ Admission
The Fever is currently number five on the WNBA table. Despite the absence of Clark, the likes of McDonald and Colson ensured that the team did not have a slip-up. But now, since they both have been ruled out due to season-ending injuries, Indiana is in a fix. And while White has to deal with the entire situation, she seems to be trying her best to fill the void. At least, that’s how it appeared when the Fever HC spoke with the reporters.
During Fever’s recent practice season, White opened up about the ongoing injury situation within the team. And just like a true mentor, she started off by praising her team. The WNBA veteran coach pointed out how her team was always trying to show resilience. They try to have the backs of their teammates no matter what the situation is. But having said that, the Fever HC also stated that she felt ‘awful’ about how so many injuries have plagued the team.
“Okay, yes, we feel awful for the ones who aren’t able to play, but we feel really good about those who now get opportunity that might not have opportunity had those guys been on the floor,” White said.
From White’s statement, it is evident that Fever is feeling the brunt significantly. And in order to address the void, the team recently signed Odyssey Sims on a hardship contract. Now, it is for sure that the induction of Sims will provide some relief. But she alone might not be able to repair the massive void that has been created. And to make matters worse, White recently had another sombre update for Caitlin Clark’s return.

Stephanie White Has No Definite Return Timeline For Caitlin Clark
Caitlin Clark has now missed close to 20 games this season. And this is quite odd for Clark, as she has never missed a single game in all of her previous years combined. In fact, the 23-year-old had featured in 185 consecutive games before injury made her come to a standstill. Naturally, as the days go by, fans are getting eager to know about her injury status. And to answer the question, Stephanie White made yet another announcement.
“Caitlin Clark (groin) not yet practicing; has been doing full court running and endurance work,” said White.

Now, the update might sound grim. But in reality, there are enough silver linings visible. For one, Clark has started doing full-court running. While this can be considered a huge improvement, she has also been doing endurance workouts. Thus, all in all, the situation looks a bit brighter than before. Fans cannot wait to see how things pan out next.
