The Indiana Fever is looking for a quick fix. A fix that the side could use as a long-term solution, too. Following season-ending injuries to Sydney Colson and Aari McDonald, coupled with Caitlin Clark’s absence, the side has no true point guard at the moment. Considering the final phase of the season, it’s challenging to find a fitting match in a short period of time.
But head coach Stephanie White is not worried. She trusts her front office and, in a recent interview, gave insights into their recruiting process.
Stephanie White Explains Indiana Fever’s Scouting Process
Drafting or even signing a player takes a lot of process. Franchises evaluate the player’s potential and possible fit alongside the roster. Finding a player at a particular position is even more difficult, limiting the options for the scouts. As for the Indiana Fever, the side is looking for a point guard.
When asked, HC Stephanie White explained the process and mentioned that the Fever front office has been very great.
“All the involved. It’s seeing film, watching clips, talking to contacts and connections. Briann (January), especially, is super helpful; she’s got contacts overseas. You can see, Kyra, for example, played a lot overseas. Same thing with Odyssey, all three of our assistant coaches coached her at AAU, there is this familiarity. So it’s really as all hands are on deck,” Stephanie White told the interviewer (Via X/_girltalk).
Aari McDonald fit in perfectly and excelled with the Indiana Fever before her injury. The Fever fans will be looking for a similar impactful player to fill in for the point guard position. Till now, the side has Odyssey Sims and Kyra Lambert on a temporary contract.

In the 2025 off-season, the side made a strong push, adding players like Sophie Cunningham, Natasha Howard, and DeWanna Bonner. Except for Bonner, the other inclusions have been very productive for the Indiana team, putting them in a strong position.
Stephanie White Has A Difficult Task In Hand Without Caitlin Clark’s Return
The 48-year-old coach blamed the recent loss against the Dallas Wings on ‘poor officiating,’ but in the end, the Fever lost the game and dropped to sixth place. Without a designated point guard, the side’s struggles were visible in the game, and the HC understands the difficult period ahead.

While the recruiting process is ongoing, the franchise is also working hard on Caitlin Clark’s return. Her addition will quickly put them in a dominating position, yet the team is looking to make sure that the former Iowa star is 100% fit for the games and stays healthy for the long term.
Stephanie White handed the decision to the medical staff, who are looking after the player. She has yet to practice with the team, with emphasis still given to runs and physical fitness. The player also expressed frustration over the lengthy rehab period but understands the need for ‘complete’ recovery.
