The Indiana Fever might have won the 2025 WNBA Commissioner’s Cup, but the real goal is still to win the league title. However, with the recent loss against the Valkyries, there are a few questions about the team’s ability to achieve that goal. Frustrated with the losses, Head Coach Stephanie White has some answers.
Fever’s regular-season record (9-10) is not encouraging. It shows that the roster still needs a lot of work to win a title or even make the playoffs. The Fever HC is ready with the plan ahead, though.
Stephanie White Not Happy With Recent Losses
Caitlin Clark is not shooting well, Kelsey Mitchell lacks consistency, and the team struggles defensively in games. That’s the story so far for the Indiana Fever in the 2025 season. With a loss against the Valkyries, the franchise’s weak links are once again open, and that’s a disturbing sign for the fans.
Addressing the ‘bouncing back’ requirement, the 48-year-old HC mentioned what’s to be done to overcome the tough situation and also mentioned a few reasons that affected the team’s flow in the season.
“I mean certainly you don’t want to get too high or too low, but I think yeah, pissed off. Sense of urgency, back against the wall. I think that there has to be a level of desperation in how we play. And I don’t mean desperate like panic. I mean desperate like you don’t have a margin for error, right? This league is too good. Players are too good. It’s as deep as it’s ever been.” White told the media after the team practice session.
Touching on the reasons part, she mentioned that the players were 100% available even for the practice, and now that the team is available, they will have to reboot their game plans accordingly.

Sophie Cunningham, Sydney Colson, and Clark missed games and practice earlier in the season due to injury. DeWanna Bonner was out for personal reasons, while Damiris Dantas was on international duty.
But the coach has a solution for the ‘issue at hand’ in these troubles. She mentioned that the team must build consistency on the floor and be accountable for its actions. Adding to the consistency point, the former Fever player and coach noted that the sense of urgency for the games should be organic, making it more impactful.
Tough Period Ahead For Stephanie White And Indiana Fever
With the quality on the roster, the star-studded side was expected to crack into the top three of the standings. Instead, the side struggles to confirm its place in the postseason, and its current form is worrisome. Losses against the lower-ranked Sparks and the expansion team Valkyries were highlights of their poor show.

But the concerns don’t end there. Before closing the month, the team will face the Atlanta Dream (July 11), Liberty (July 16, 23), Aces (July 24), and Mercury (July 30). That’s five tough matchups in the upcoming eight-game stretch. Caitlin Clark and co. struggled against these top teams, and any more losses will pile up pressure on the Indiana franchise, potentially ending their season earlier than expected.
