Kelsey Mitchell had been one of the saviors for the Indiana Fever. At a time when Caitlin Clark, Sophie Cunningham, Sydney Colson, and Aari McDonald sat out for injury, it was Mitchell’s brilliance that kept the team afloat. Surprisingly, after the end of the season, Mitchell did express uncertainty about his future with the Indiana Fever. However, in a recent statement from head coach Stephanie White, it looks like the Fever won’t let Mitchell go so easily.
The 29-year-old star had a phenomenal year. She dropped career-best averages of 20.2 points per game in the regular season. Taking things to the next level, Mitchell averaged a whopping 22.3 points per game in the playoffs. It is surely not surprising that White was so keen on retaining her.
Stephanie White Reflects On Kelsey Mitchell’s Importance For Indiana Fever
As per sources, there are two WNBA teams in the race to lure Mitchell. But the Fever head coach, too, is not willing to let her go easily. In a recent interview with the Indianapolis Star’s Brian Haenchen and Chloe Peterson, White pointed out that the 29-year-old is yet to get to her best years. She also highlighted how Mitchell has endured numerous hardships in her career. And now she deserves a smooth sailing in Indiana.

“We want to continue to build around her and continue for her to have success. I thought she was so instrumental in everything that we did. You lose everybody that we lost, and Kelsey Mitchell just kept getting better and better and better as the year progressed. And I think that while it’s hard to believe she’s eight years or whatever in this league, that there’s still so much in her,” said White.
White further stated that she has repeatedly told Mitchell how much she enjoys being her coach. The Fever head coach also reiterated that she would happily serve as her coach as long as she is with the Fever. Meanwhile, not only White, but Caitlin Clark, too, expressed gratitude for Mitchell.

Caitlin Clark Heaped Praise On Kelsey Mitchell
Most fans and critics thought that the Fever, without so many of their prime stars, would fail to qualify for the playoffs. Thanks to Mitchell’s heroics, they went all the way to the semi-finals. In fact, if the 29-year-old hadn’t suffered an injury in Game 5 against the Aces, the reality could have been very much different.

Following the end of the season, Mitchell shared an emotional post on social media. She wrote, “Had to get to it differently than everybody else. grief had me excited for a small piece of it… indifferent for majority of it. charged it ALL to the game. ain’t no life jacket come for me, word to Him. Pops blueprint kept me in survival mode… that survival made me. i don’t know what it all really meant…. just that it meant i stood on all 10 about it. the motto remains: shut up and go hunting. zero, gone.”
For the uninitiated, this was a tribute to her father, whom she lost back in 2024. Replying to the same, Clark wrote, “So lucky to be your teammate!!! Proud of you Kels,” Thus, it is evident that White wants her on the team badly. Now, fans are eager to see what Mitchell decides.
