The WNBA has been buzzing with the rise of young stars, but a debate over media coverage has taken center stage. WNBA legend Sue Bird recently called out the disparity in attention given to Dallas Wings rookie Paige Bueckers compared to Indiana Fever’s Caitlin Clark.
While some claim the WNBA is using Clark’s injury to push Bueckers into the spotlight, the story has a contrast of opinions. Though everybody will have their very own viewpoint to this debate, the league has only given great fame to it’s stars.
Sue Bird Wants More Attention For Paige Buekcers Over Caitlin Clark
During the latest episode of her ‘A Touch More with Sue Bird & Megan Rapinoe’ podcast, Bird shared words on Bueckers’ popularity and talent not getting the recognition. She termed it underrated, despite her standout performances in the 2025 season. While Clark’s rise has been well-documented, Bird insists there’s room for both players to shine without one overshadowing the other.

“I think Paige is really popular... it’s specific. I think…what I would say that I’m noticing that’s lacking, not just Paige…honestly, everyone in the WNBA. Including Caitlin! I know she’s not playing right now. It’s like…where is the ‘more?’” she said.

Though the Wings rookie and the Fever phenom have drawn endless comparisons as the WNBA’s newest stars, Sue Bird wants the media to give Bueckers her flowers.

“I think at times, when people say Paige should have more, they think that means taking away from Caitlin. And it doesn’t. Caitlin deserves everything she gets, and Paige deserves more…I think, specific to Paige, you might argue her popularity, and the people that are fans of her, has been underrated. Which shocks me!” Bird added.
Bird’s not wrong about Bueckers’ talent. Despite the Wings’ rough 9-33 season, the rookie has been a bright spot. She is averaging 18.9 points, 5.3 assists, 3.8 rebounds, and 1.6 steals per game. Her mid-range game is lethal, and she made history with a 44-point outburst against the Los Angeles Sparks in August, even though Dallas fell 81-80.
Paige Bueckers-Caitlin Clark Comparison Seems Unavoidable
While many fans would not like the direct comparison of the two, the Paige Bueckers vs. Caitlin Clark debate will last a little longer. Recently, WNBA broadcaster Bueckers-Clark’s comparison went terribly wrong.
Though she failed to make it to the playoffs, the UConn alum is putting up some impressive numbers for the team while giving fans all the reasons to cheer for her. Many are already eyeing her as a strong contender for Rookie of the Year. But how does she measure up against last year’s winner, Caitlin Clark from the Indiana Fever?

However, Sabreena Merchant from The Athletic recently dug into this comparison and found some interesting insights. While Clark’s stats might slightly edge out Bueckers’, what’s really impressive is Bueckers’ impact on her team. Even though the Wings are struggling (currently at 9-33), Bueckers has helped the team perform 8.1 points better per 100 possessions when she’s on the court.
That’s a big deal, even if the wins haven’t come rolling in. But the following stat came as a kicker. Clark played on a team that fought hard for a playoff spot, even bouncing back from a 2-9 start. Her experience included high-stakes moments that could define a rookie season.
