The regular season is reaching its conclusive period, and it’s time to honor the top performers of the league, past and present. With A’ja Wilson and Kelsey Mitchell joining Napheesa Collier for the MVP candidates list, there is one honor that everyone knows beforehand. Sue Bird will be inducted into the Hall of Fame.
Along with the Seattle superstar, the Minnesota Lynx duo – Maaya Moore and Sylvia Fowles will also receive the honor. The ceremony will take place on September 7.
Sue Bird’s Celebratory Year Continues
This really has been a special year for the five-time Olympic gold medalist. The Seattle Storm made a special gesture for their champion guard, Bird, by unveiling a statue outside the Climate Pledge Arena. Bird got emotional during the unveiling ceremony.

While it was an honor from the franchise, she will now receive a special recognition from the league. Weeks ago, the WNBA confirmed that the 44-year-old guard will be inducted into the Naismith Hall of Fame alongside Maya Moore and Sylvia Fowles.
This is the first time that three WNBA players will receive the honor in the same year. But the trio is certainly one of the most powerful names in the league.
Sue Bird jokingly mentioned that the trio will cause problems for the opponents. “Put us on a 3×3 team, you’d have some problems, but we’d be pretty good. It is pretty special to go in with people who aren’t just amazing players, having impact on and off the court, but these are players that I got to experience life with,” she said after the award was confirmed.

Maya Moore also highlighted the impact of the trio and said, “That’s absolutely one of my highlights, going in with Syl and Sue. Just players that I had so many positive moments with, but also, I know what it’s like to grind things out with them as well. We’ve been battle-tested with each other as well.”
The Minnesota Lynx and USA national team head coach, Cheryl Reeve, congratulated the trio with some strong words: “I think that would be fair to say that they would have the title of best class ever. They are each Hall of Famers and are terrific in their own right to the extent they impacted their sport.”
