The CBA delay news has become so common that its confirmation might be a big surprise for fans. But the delay is putting pressure on teams, especially expansion teams. The Toronto Tempo Head Coach, Sandy Brondello, voiced concern over the delayed WNBA 2026 schedule release. But the Connecticut Sun is in a different situation and wants to see the closure of CBA discussions for a different reason.
The franchise has been on the market for nearly a year now. The team had two offers, one from Boston and the other from the state of Connecticut, valuing the franchise at $325 million, but the league rejected the proposals, eyeing another destination.

Stalled CBA Discussions Raise Tensions For Connecticut Sun
Midway into the season, when the process for the franchise sale was taking traction, the WNBA’s stance delayed the confirmation. The Sun’s ownership alleged the WNBA is blocking the sale and ‘trying to steal’ the franchise. Reporter Maggie Vanoni spoke on the topic on the Hoops 360 podcast.
“They’ve had offers from Boston and from the state of Connecticut, and it appears both of those offers have been denied or blocked by the league. Through reporting, it seems the league prefers a move to a bigger market, possibly Houston. The Houston Comets previously played there before folding, and that market is now looking to re-enter the WNBA. As a result, the franchise is in limbo. They cannot move, and they cannot be sold, until the CBA is finalized,” Vanoni said.
Now they have interest from Houston, which is also aligning with the league’s interest, but the deal won’t take place until the CBA terms are clear. Though the Connecticut Sun confirmed its participation from the Mohegan Sun Arena in 2026, the front office would have loved to see the deal go through well before the end of the season.
