Early Life & College Career

Brittney Sykes was born on February 7, 1994, in Newark, New Jersey. She grew up with a strong basketball background and quickly emerged as a standout player in high school.

Sykes went on to play college basketball at Syracuse University (2012–2017), where she became one of the program’s all-time greats. Despite battling two ACL injuries during her career, she showed resilience and returned stronger each time.

At Syracuse:

  • Finished as the No. 3 all-time leading scorer in program history with 1,846 career points.

  • Helped lead the Orange to the 2016 NCAA Championship game, the program’s first-ever Final Four appearance.

  • Earned All-ACC honors and recognition for her scoring and defensive skills.

Her toughness and perseverance through injuries made her one of the most respected players in college basketball.

Brittney Sykes was drafted 7th overall in the 2017 WNBA Draft by the Atlanta Dream. She made an immediate impact, finishing as a finalist for Rookie of the Year.
