Cathy Engelbert was born on November 14, 1964, in Collingswood, New Jersey. She grew up in a large family with five brothers and three sisters, many of whom played sports. Her father, Kurt Engelbert, played college basketball at Saint Joseph’s under legendary coach Jack Ramsay, which influenced Cathy’s love for the game.
At Lehigh University, she was a standout guard and captain of the women’s basketball team. Engelbert graduated in 1986 with a degree in accounting, balancing her passion for athletics with academics, which paved the way for her future career.
Engelbert began her career at Deloitte in 1986, working her way up the ranks over three decades. In 2015, she became the first female CEO of a Big Four accounting firm in the U.S. During her tenure, Deloitte experienced record growth, and she was widely praised for her leadership in innovation, diversity, and workplace culture.
She stepped down in 2019 to take on a new challenge: leading the WNBA.
