Early Life

Courtney Vandersloot was born on February 8, 1989, in Kent, Washington. She starred at Kentwood High School, where she began showing her elite passing ability and scoring instincts. She went on to play college basketball at Gonzaga University (2007–2011), where she became one of the most decorated players in program history.

At Gonzaga, Vandersloot became the first player in NCAA history (men’s or women’s) to record 2,000 points and 1,000 assists in her career. She was named the 2011 Nancy Lieberman Award winner as the nation’s top point guard and was a three-time WCC Player of the Year.

WNBA Career

Vandersloot was selected 3rd overall in the 2011 WNBA Draft by the Chicago Sky, where she played for 12 seasons (2011–2022). She became the Sky’s all-time leader in assists and played a pivotal role in leading the team to the 2021 WNBA Championship, the first in franchise history.

She is a four-time WNBA All-Star (2011, 2019, 2021, 2023) and has led the league in assists six times (2015, 2017–2021). In 2020, she set a then-WNBA record with 10.0 assists per game, becoming the first player in league history to average double-digit assists.

In 2023, Vandersloot signed with the New York Liberty, joining Breanna Stewart, Sabrina Ionescu, and Jonquel Jones in forming one of the league’s top “superteams.” She helped guide the Liberty to the 2023 WNBA Finals, further cementing her reputation as one of the most impactful point guards in WNBA history.
