Early Life

Erica Wheeler was born on May 2, 1991, in Miami, Florida. She faced major challenges growing up, including the tragic loss of her mother to cancer when she was a teenager. Basketball became both her passion and her escape.

Wheeler went on to play college basketball at the University of Rutgers (2009–2013). Known for her speed and scoring ability, she developed into one of the team’s most reliable guards and finished her senior year averaging double-digit points per game.

WNBA Career

After going undrafted in 2013, Wheeler pursued her professional career overseas, playing in countries like Turkey, Brazil, and Israel. Her persistence paid off when she signed with the Atlanta Dream in 2015, beginning her WNBA journey.

She later joined the Indiana Fever, where she made her mark as a dynamic guard. In 2019, Wheeler was named a WNBA All-Star and delivered a career-defining performance, scoring 25 points with 7 three-pointers to earn All-Star Game MVP honors—becoming the first undrafted player in WNBA history to win the award.

Wheeler also played for the Los Angeles Sparks (2021) and the Atlanta Dream (2022) before returning to the Fever in 2023. Known for her scoring, passing, and veteran leadership, she continues to be one of the most inspirational stories in the league.
