Early Life

Jaylyn Sherrod was born on October 21, 2001, in Birmingham, Alabama. Growing up, she was known for her determination and passion for basketball. At Parker High School, she established herself as one of Alabama’s top guards, earning recognition for her quickness, hustle, and ability to create plays for teammates.

Her journey wasn’t always easy—standing at 5’7″, she often faced doubts about her size, but her toughness and leadership skills helped her stand out. These qualities carried over into college, where she made an immediate impact.

College Career at Colorado

Sherrod played five seasons (2019–2024) at the University of Colorado. She became a cornerstone of the Buffaloes program, starting a school-record 133 games. Known for her defensive intensity, she was named to the Pac-12 All-Defensive Team three times (2021, 2023, 2024).

She also developed into a capable scorer and playmaker, finishing her career with over 1,000 points and 600 assists. In 2024, she earned Pac-12 Scholar-Athlete of the Year and was named the Pac-12 Tom Hansen Outstanding Senior Athlete.

Sherrod led Colorado to back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances, including a Sweet 16 run in 2023. Her leadership and consistency made her one of the most respected players in program history.

WNBA Career

Despite going undrafted in the 2024 WNBA Draft, Sherrod signed a training camp contract with the New York Liberty. She impressed coaches with her energy and defense, earning a roster spot. In her rookie season, she contributed in limited minutes but still played a role on a team that went on to win the 2024 WNBA Championship.

In 2025, she was signed by the Minnesota Lynx, where she is continuing her WNBA journey. Though early in her professional career, Sherrod’s defensive toughness and leadership qualities give her strong potential to grow into a reliable guard in the league.
