Mitchell was born on November 12, 1995, in Cincinnati, Ohio. She grew up in a basketball family, with her twin sister Chelsea also playing at Ohio State.
At Ohio State University (2014–2018), Mitchell had a legendary college career. She became the second all-time leading scorer in NCAA women’s basketball history with 3,402 points, averaging 24.5 points per game across four seasons. She also set the NCAA record for most three-pointers made (497). Mitchell was a three-time Big Ten Player of the Year and a four-time All-American.
The Indiana Fever selected Mitchell 2nd overall in the 2018 WNBA Draft. As a rookie, she averaged 12.7 points per game, immediately showing her scoring potential.
