Roberts was born in Redding, California, where she grew up playing basketball. She attended Seattle Pacific University, excelling as a guard and earning All-Conference honors. Her time as a player inspired her transition into coaching, where she would later make a bigger impact from the sidelines.
Lynne Roberts began her head coaching career at Chico State (2002–2006), where she turned the program into a consistent NCAA Division II contender. She then led the University of the Pacific (2006–2015), developing the team into a competitive mid-major program.
In 2015, she became the head coach at the University of Utah. Under her leadership, Utah rose to national recognition, highlighted by a Pac-12 Championship and an NCAA Tournament Elite Eight run in 2023.
