Initially a soccer player, she transitioned to basketball and quickly rose through the European club system, joining ASVEL Féminin’s youth academy at age 12. She spent nearly a decade developing there before moving to CSP Nantes-Rezé and then Charnay Basket, where she became a standout player in France’s Ligue Féminine de Basketball (LFB).

Starting all 41 games, she averaged 7.7 points, 2.2 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 0.8 steals per game, shooting 43.0% from the field and 39.8% from three-point range. Her consistent performance earned her a spot on the All-WNBA Rookie Team. Despite being undrafted, she played a crucial role in the Mercury’s success during the season.


International Career

Akoa Makani has represented the Cameroon national team, participating in the 2023 Women’s AfroBasket and the 2024 AfroBasket Qualifiers. Her international experience has further honed her skills and contributed to her development as a player.
