Sabally was born on April 25, 1998, in New York City but grew up in Berlin, Germany. She comes from a multicultural background, with a Gambian father and a German mother. Her sister, Nyara Sabally, also plays professional basketball.
She attended the University of Oregon (2017–2020), where she played alongside Sabrina Ionescu and Ruthy Hebard. Sabally averaged 16.2 points and 6.9 rebounds per game during her college career, helping the Ducks reach the Final Four in 2019. She was named to the All-Pac-12 team twice and quickly became known as one of the best forwards in the country.
The Dallas Wings selected Sabally with the second overall pick in the 2020 WNBA Draft. Despite dealing with injuries early in her career, she showed flashes of dominance.
In 2021, she averaged 11.9 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game. By 2023, Sabally had her breakout season, averaging 18.6 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 4.4 assists, earning her WNBA All-Star honors and the WNBA Most Improved Player Award.
She has also been a key figure internationally, representing Germany in FIBA competitions, where she continues to elevate her game on a global level.
