If anything, the Golden State Valkyries have been making the most out of their inaugural season. They are utilizing their players well, taking advantage fo the defense etc. Additionally, at the top of it all, the Valkyries are winning impressive games just like the 74-57 victory over the Connecticut Sun.
The important win put them in the seventh position with 13 games remaining in the regular season. Too much done, yet a good lot still to finish. While the Bay Area team is looking to make history, its veteran guard, Tiffany Hayes, reached a milestone with her high-scoring night. Not only that, she also surpassed legendary Sheryl Swoopes in the league’s all-time scoring list.
Tiffany Hayes Passes Sheryl Swoopes In WNBA All-Time Scoring List
The Connecticut Sun struggled against the Golden State Valkyries’ tight defensive game play and could score 57 points only. This was the sixth lowest score by any team in the 2025 season with the Sun side making to ‘unwanted list’ on three different occasions.
The San Francisco team also pounced on their opposition’s misery and dominated the game completely. The former Aces’ guard, in particular, was efficient from the field and scored a game-high 17 points. This puts her in the 31st position in the all-time scorers list, surpassing legend Sheryl Swoopes.

The franchise highlighted the moment when the former UConn star reached the milestone. Swoops scored 4875 points in 324 games, and Tiffany Hayes took 372 games to cross the milestone. Diana Taurasi still leads the all-time scorers list with a massive 10,646 total. There are three active players in the top-10 scorers list, and only 29 players with over 5000 points. With 13 more games remaining in the season, the 35-year-old guard is well in position to cross the 5K mark playing for the expansion team.
Tiffany Hayes With Added Responsibilities For Golden State Valkyries
The expansion team provided a perfect opportunity for the veterans, like Kayla Thornton, Monique Billings, and Hayes, to get more game time and be more impactful for the team. Playing its first season in the league, the Golden State Valkyries has already set many records, from highest attendance to most valuable franchise.

They are also on a verge of making history by becoming the first expansion team to play in the postseason in its very first season. Standing in the seventh position, the team has a chance to extend its season with a deep playoff run.
While the team’s top performer, Thornton, is out for a season with injury, the onus is on Hayes to carry on with the impressive run. The veteran star is putting up high numbers – second in scoring and third in assists, at the offensive end. She also ranks third in the usage rate for the Valkyries.
