As the dust settled on the WNBA’s current season, it was the Las Vegas Aces who emerged victorious. Following the victory, social media erupted as the Aces swept the Mercury. However, with the WNBA going into its offseason, it is now time for Unrivaled to take center stage.
For the uninitiated, the 3-on-3 basketball league has been one of the most successful ones in recent times. And while it is only in its second year, things are looking quite bright.
Meanwhile, as the second season is just months away, the league has officially confirmed its roster recently. And while it will consist of more star power than last year, some significant big names are missing from the list.
Top 5 WNBA Stars Who Will Not Be A Part Of Unrivaled This Year
5. DiJonai Carrington

Carrington has been quite an asset for the Minnesota Lynx this season. She was largely responsible for propelling Minnesota’s near-perfect run in the regular season. Unfortunately, as the league reached its last lap, Carrington suffered a serious foot injury. And while she was out of Lynx’s last few games, Carrington does not seem to have recovered fully. Thus, as the 27-year-old played for the Mist BC in Unrivaled last year, she was left out this time around.
4. Sabrina Ionescu

Surely, another one of the biggest names missing this year has been Sabrina Ionescu. The 27-year-old WNBA star played a pivotal role in taking the New York Liberty to the title. However, when it comes to the Unrivaled, the Liberty does not seem too keen on suiting up. Last year, Ionescu initially expressed her reluctance to enter the 3-on-3 format. However, she did don the colors of Phantom BC after joining midway.

And this time, too, she has opted out of the league. Instead, a glance at her social media updates will make it clear that the WNBA star is currently prioritizing spending time with her family. She has been posting pictures of golfing with her husband while also enjoying the company of her girl gang.
3. A’ja Wilson

Wilson is currently the hottest name in the WNBA right now. Winning the MVP award for a whopping fourth time, the Aces star has proved her elite talent. And that’s not all. Owing to her incredible display of basketball, Aces head coach Becky Hammon compared Wilson to Michael Jordan and LeBron James following the WNBA triumph.
However, with the Unrivaled’s final list revealing the absence of Wilson, this is the second straight year that the Aces star has missed the game. Last year, she opted out of the tournament to focus on her recovery after the toiling WNBA season. This year, too, it looks like Wilson is following a similar template.
4. Caitlin Clark

Undoubtedly, Caitlin Clark is the face of the WNBA at the moment. It was her emergence onto the big scene that propelled the WNBA to become a massive sports attraction. Playing as a rookie back in 2024, the Indiana Fever star garnered more than 50 million eyeballs in the league. And since then, the WNBA has been booming in terms of finances, investments, and sponsorships.
Thus, it is for sure that her presence in the Unrivaled will cause the popularity of the league to explode. Unfortunately, as of now, it looks like that dream has to wait. While the Fever star missed the inaugural season, the hype around her this time was sky-high. But owing to her lingering groin injury, Clark will not be featuring this season either. However, during her exit interview, the 23-year-old phenom did say that she would be playing golf and also join the Team USA World Cup training camp.
1. Angel Reese

Perhaps the biggest surprise was when the name of Angel Reese was left out of the list. Last year, Reese sported the colors of Rose BC. Becoming the inaugural champion, fans expected Reese to come back as the defending champion. Moreover, with the Chi-Town Barbie making her debut for Victoria’s Secret, it was expected that the Chicago Sky star would bring in a lot of star power.
Apart from this, there was also significant interest in Paige Bueckers teaming up with Reese. But all of that will have to take a backseat. While it is unclear why Reese has opted out, she might just join midway, much to her fans’ delight.
