The WNBA made a surprise announcement this Wednesday. As the CBA deal threatens an impending work stoppage, the front office decided to scrap the 2026 season schedule. Now, such a situation has further confused the athletes about what to do next.
While fans are still debating the stalled CBA talks, athletes, too, are adamant about their stance on fair play. But amid all of these, one team that looks pretty excited to get the action started is none other than the Toronto Tempo.

Toronto Tempo Excited To Play Inaugural WNBA Season
As per the schedule released, the expansion team from Toronto will play on the opening day of May 8, 2026. Hosting the Washington Mystics, the team will be hoping to make the perfect start by registering a win.
Playing on their home court, Tempo will have its venues spread out. Fans in Toronto will be able to watch three games live at Scotiabank Arena. Montreal’s Bell Center will host two other games, while Rogers Arena in Vancouver will hold a couple more.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter) to share the news, the official Tempo handle also announced a collaboration with LEGO Canada.
“One for the history books. Canada, it’s our time to play. The Toronto Tempo 2026 inaugural season schedule is here and we couldn’t just drop it, we had to build it. We’ve teamed up with our friends LEGO Canada to create something special,” read the post.

Surely, the team looks pretty charged up for the upcoming season. Adding further to the narrative, head coach Sandy Brondello recently revealed her motivation for joining Toronto.
Why Did Sandy Brondello Join The Toronto Tempo?
Brondello has been one of the best coaches in the game. The New York Liberty fired Brondello despite her leading the team to a championship. Immediately, teams like the Dallas Wings and Seattle Storm approached her with high-paying offers. But while she turned down all of them, Brondello revealed why she accepted Tempo’s invitation.

“Once I was let go from New York I had some interest from other teams and going through that process was fun. A little overwhelming, a little stressful just making that decision because they’re all great situations. But in the end, my heart was leading me to Toronto. To build something from scratch in a whole new city. A whole new country. It’s not just Toronto’s team. It’s Canada’s team,” Brondello said.
Thus, as things look promising, fans are eager to find out what’s next.
