The 2026 WNBA season’s future is slightly getting clearer as the league announced its schedule, and the WNBPA’s vice president is also showing positive signs over the CBA discussions. The expansion team, Toronto Tempo, Head Coach Sandy Brondello, voices concern over the delayed WNBA 2026 schedule release amid stalled free agency.
Having no player to work with is her primary concern, as the team’s further activities are still on hold. But as for their signings, the franchise might have a few names in mind.

Toronto Tempo Targeting Top Players
The WNBA schedule gave the franchises a chance to plan their home and away schedules and book arenas accordingly. As for Toronto Tempo, the side is still on step one, and their priority is to select impactful players, helping them to start their campaign on the right foot.
In the press conference, coach Sandy Brondello mentioned “tough-minded players who are gritty, who can play, who are selfless, but still obviously have confidence in their ability as well.” Though this is a proven recipe for a successful season, having Brondello at the helm will certainly help the side attract a few top players.

Franchise president Teresa Resch was excited about revealing the team name and explained, “Tempo is pace. It’s speed. It’s a heartbeat. And it’s what you feel when you step into the streets of this city, and in the energy of the people who call Canada home. As Canada’s WNBA team, I know the Tempo will set our own pace, move at a championship cadence, and inspire people across this country.”

Toronto Tempo HC Already Marking Her Opponents
The Tempo side will be aiming for players who could instill a winning culture in the expansion team. And when it comes to its opponents, the head coach is already looking at its top opponents. When asked about three teams she is looking forward to, she answered immediately. After naming her former teams, Mercury and Liberty, she chose the Indiana Fever.
“I have Indiana, because everyone loves to play against Caitlin Clark. I think they’ve got such a big following in this league too, so our players can go into a very loud arena, I think that will be fun,” Brondello said.

Interestingly, earlier in the season, Brondello revealed ‘Caitlin Clark’ as a coaching nightmare that makes her “really hard to guard”. And now she is looking to test her team against the Indiana Fever. The Fever team will host the Canadian team first on June 16 at Gainbridge Arena, and on August 18, the Tempo side will be the host for the Indiana team at Coca-Cola Coliseum in Toronto.
