From the start of the 2025-26 college basketball season, many top teams started with a win streak that put them at the top of the rankings. The UConn Huskies also live up to the hype despite the departure of Paige Bueckers. Incidentally, as coach Geno Auriemma named the Michigan Wolverines and other teams as the Huskies’ toughest opponents, the side stepped up to keep those challengers at bay.
While the side is 15-0 in the season, their dominance in the Big East is more commendable, with a total point difference of 288 points in just six games.

UConn Huskies Dominate Big East
Home or away game, the Huskies are always the favorites in the matchups. In the Big East conference, the side played against Xavier, DePaul, Marquette, Butler, Providence, and Seton Hall so far in the season. Geno Auriemma’s team won by 65, 67, 36, 47, 37, and 36 points respectively.
Sports analyst Jon Rothstein highlights the difference between the Huskies and the other Big East teams. He said, “This team is different. This team has incredible balance, this team has incredible depth, and I think it’s really going to be difficult for opponents to now try and game plan for UConn in the Big East. They don’t need to rely on one player to go off to get 20 or 25 to go win a game. And I’m starting to see, more and more, the gap between UConn and the rest of the conference.”

Balance-wise, the team has multiple players in double-figure scoring, two or more steals, and even four or more rebounds. Most of the roster is capable of playmaking, with players averaging more than three assists per game.

But is Big East dominance sufficient for the NCAA Championship, especially with other conference toppers also making big statements in the season?
Could the UConn Huskies Win Back-To-Back Titles?
Along with the Huskies, many top sides recently put up strong claims for the NCAA title. The South Carolina Gamecocks, LSU Tigers, and UCLA Bruins are top-ranked sides that have put up great performances in the ongoing season.
The UCLA side, in particular, boasts depth in its roster and is poised to shatter the WNBA draft record with six Bruins projected in the 2026 class. Lauren Betts hit the form at the perfect time, while the wingers and playmakers are right on money.

Another challenger in the NCAA playoffs would be the South Carolina Gamecocks. Even though they are struggling with the injuries, players like Agot Makeer, Raven Johnson, and Ta’Niya Latson are putting them in challenging positions.
While the Huskies have the balance and strong defensive gameplay that gives them a chance for the back-to-back championships, they must be cautious of these dark horses in the league.
