The UConn Huskies made it to the Sweet Sixteen for 32 seasons in a row. The side reached the final four 24 times and won the title 12 times during that run. While the records at the Connecticut program are incredible, they are looking to invest in its home court, Gampel Pavilion, to make it future-ready.
The women’s basketball team played its final home game of the season, and it’s the perfect time to start the makeover, allowing ample time to complete the work. Azzi Fudd shares true emotions about playing her final home game, and now the player might receive her championship ring in the revamped Arena.

UConn Huskies Invest $99 Million in Improved Facilities
As per the report, the UConn Huskies announced a $99M in upgrades to Gampel Pavilion. The upgrades will include modifications and additions of new locker rooms, recruiting and coach lounges, a post-game press conference room and allocation of new premium spaces and concessions.
UConn AD David Benedict released a statement regarding the upgrade, saying, “Gampel Pavilion is one of the most electric atmospheres in all of college basketball, and our student-athletes and fans deserve a facility that matches the standard we hold ourselves to every day.”

While the arena is ready for the makeover, the last game it held ended pretty one-sided with the hosts recording a commanding 53-point win. Although the performances might not be a big surprise for many considering the Huskies’ form, Coach Auriemma highlights one aspect that surprised him in the win.
Geno Auriemma Praises UConn Huskies’ Latest Win
While Azzi Fudd led the team to an ‘easy’ win over Syracuse Orange, it surprised coach Geno Auriemma. Not because of the margin of victory or the competition, but because of fatigue. It’s important to note that the Huskies won the championship last season and played at a high level and intensity to clinch an undefeated regular season and conference tournament.
Knowing the load team carried, Coach Auriemma said, “I thought we looked tired because it’s that time of the year. You waited 10–12 days, whatever it is, to play, and you’ve just laid around, and we were on spring break. So I thought we looked a little tired, mentally and physically, when we played on Saturday… I was worried. I’m thinking this is going to maybe take some time to shake the cobwebs. Today, when we came out, it was unbelievable.”
The defending champions will now face the Tar Heels in the Sweet Sixteen and have a 9-4 record against them. Interestingly, though, they will be facing each other only the second time in the March Madness, and the Tar Heels won their earlier meeting to clinch the championship.
