With the WNBA offseason underway, it is now time for the drafts to shake things up. As the Dallas Wings finally won the 2026 WNBA draft lottery, they will be keeping a close eye on the emerging NCAA-level talents before the draft.
Over the years, it has been the colleges that have served as the supply line for the WNBA. Take Caitlin Clark, Angel Reese, or Paige Bueckers, for example. Ruling the elite league at the moment, all of them were stars for Iowa, LSU, and UConn, respectively.
And keeping a close look at the NCAA, the latest NET rankings have been released. Surprisingly, despite the LSU Tigers being impressive, it was the Huskies that took the number 1 spot.

UConn Huskies Topple LSU Tigers As NCAA Battle Heats Up
Well, the Tigers have been on a rampage this season. Barring one season, LSU has dropped 100 points in all of its games this year. Thus, everybody expected them to be the number 1 team as per the NET rankings.
However, there is a slight catch in how the NET ranks the teams. To quote the official NCAA website, NET “takes into account game results, strength of schedule, game location, net offensive and defensive efficiency, and the quality of wins and losses.”

And this is where the UConn Huskies come into play. A closer look will reveal that the Tigers have so far dominated an inferior field. On the other hand, for the Huskies, the opponents they faced were significantly tougher. Surely, it is evident that the Huskies are building a very strong culture. And it is for the same reason that Paige Bueckers wants to incorporate the same in the Dallas Wings.
Paige Bueckes Wants To Forge A Strong Winning Culture Like The UConn Huskies In Dallas
Bueckers has been one of the brightest stars that the Huskies have produced in recent times. Unfortunately, despite winning the Rookie of the Year award, Bueckers failed to take the Dallas Wings to the playoffs.

Thus, as the team is looking to come back stronger, the 23-year-old star wants to take inspiration from her success at UConn. “To come off a national championship, where you’re on top of the world, and then come to the Dallas Wings organization and not have immediate success in terms of the end result of a winning and losing season. I believe everything in my life happens for a reason and there’s a purpose. And even through the injuries, through all the adversity in my life, I’ve always looked back and been extremely grateful for it.”

Thus, with the UConn Huskies dominating the NCAA game, fans will be eager to see how long they can sustain the momentum in the future.
