The Mist BC finished Unrivaled season 2 as champions, earning Breanna Stewart her first championship and the league’s finals MVP accolade. Stewart made a bold statement after lifting the trophy, saying she prides herself on being a winner.
While the player-co-owner found individual success, the league itself received concerning reports, especially regarding viewership, which is one of the key factors in the long-term success of any league.

Viewership Drop For Unrivaled Season 2
In the recent reports, the 3-on-3 league averaged 185,000 viewers on TNT during games that did not air directly against the College Football Playoffs, NFL playoffs, and Winter Olympics. This is a 16% drop from last season’s rating.
The high-octane championship game drew 314K views, the third-highest broadcast, but the Philadelphia ‘stop’ helped the league attract a few more eyeballs, with 35% growth in viewership.

With such encouraging signs and a plan to expand in the future, co-owner Napheesa Collier already declared St. Louis as a possible tour stop for next season. Commercially, the league found success around its two home games in Philadelphia and Brooklyn, which also supports the plan to keep exploring and expanding into bigger markets.

As per Unrivaled Commissioner Micky Lawler, the league “was on track to generate” $45 million in revenue in its second season, which is $18 million more than last season’s earnings. This profit is largely due to ticket sales and merchandise sales during the season.
Despite such missed results and records, Collier is happy with the league’s progress and sees it as leverage for WNBA players amid stalled WNBA CBA discussions.
Napheesa Collier Sees Unrivaled As Leverage For WNBA Players
The WNBA-CBA negotiations are in their final day of discussion, with the League marking March 10 as the signing date for the agreement. But the league’s offer and the PA’s demands have a massive gap, and as per the Lynx megastar, Unrivaled has a key role in it.
In the recent interview, she said, “Everything we are fighting for (in the WNBA) — salary, benefits, equity in the league — at Unrivaled, we have all these things without needing to ask. We want for nothing here. Not only do we meet the minimum standards that we’re begging for in the WNBA, but we exceed them.”

It will be interesting to see how Unrivaled can help the league to find the solution, or even the WNBPA, to work on its demands to get the deal on the table.
