As the WNBA season has come to an end, players now have a bit of free time to relax. But not for long. With the CBA tensions going on, the threat of a possible work stoppage is looming large.
However, putting aside all the negativities, one of the most anticipated events coming up is the second installment of Unrivaled. While it was a major hit last year, Jason Whitlock linked Unrivaled’s success to the potential WNBA lockout.
This year, the league is expected to be bigger and better than last time. And while it has already announced its roster for the season, the 3-on-3 tournament recently revealed its roster selection rules.
What Are The Roster Selection Rules For Unrivaled 2?
Last year, with the likes of Angel Reese joining the league, the hype shot through the sky. Unfortunately, while the Chi-Town Barbie will not be playing this year, the inclusion of Paige Bueckers and co. has kept fans’ attention intact.

Revealing their rules for the 2026 edition on Bleacher Report, the organization announced two new expansion clubs in Breeze BC and Hive BC. With eight teams choosing from the 48-player pool, four clubs that made it to the playoffs last time will have an edge over the others. They are entitled to retain a couple of players from last year’s roster.

But that’s not all. Mist and Phantom, the two clubs failing to qualify for the playoffs, can also retain one player from last season. On the contrary, the organizers made sure that the new clubs coming in did not miss out.
Both Breeze and Hive held the rights to make the first and second calls. Via a coin toss, Breeze got the first pick while Hive chose second. Meanwhile, as the interest grows, there have been some significant names missing from the Unrivaled roster.
DiJonai Carrington, A’ja Wilson, And More To Miss Unrivaled Season 2
With several stars lighting up the WNBA this year, two names in particular stood out. Minnesota Lynx’s star, Carrington, was a pivotal figure in propelling the team to an incredible regular season run. Unfortunately, at the fag end of the league, the Lynx’s star suffered a brutal foot injury. And as she has not yet recovered fully from it, Carrington has opted out of the league.

Next up, after a stellar showing for the Las Vegas Aces, fans wanted to see more of A’ja Wilson’s brilliance on the court. However, while she did not play in the league last year to focus on her recovery, this year too, it has been the same.
And there are some more notable names like Sabrina Ionescu, Reese, and Caitlin Clark who are missing. However, despite the absence of the icons, fans now wait to see how things unfold next.
