The Dallas Wings waived Veronica Burton at the end of the 2024 season, allowing the Golden State Valkyries to hand her the ‘playmaker role’ of the expansion team. Very few would have imagined the future at that time as the player made the most of the opportunity, helping her rise amongst the elites of the league.
Burton’s unstoppable Valkyries surge just locked in her 2028 Olympic Gold hunt as she already made the cut to the senior team camp recently. Now there is another chance to shine, this time on the 3-on-3 floor.

Veronica Burton Would Be ‘Deciding Factor’ In Unrivaled League
The Unrivaled League is not only an ‘offseason’ practice league anymore. Many players, like Azura Stevens, developed their skills, which helped them in the next WNBA season too. Now, one player, who already won the most improved player of the season award, Burton, will be on the Unrivaled courts, playing for Mist BC.
Playing alongside the most potent forward lineup in the league with players like Breanna Stewart, Arike Ogunbowale, Alanna Smith, Li Yueru, and Allisha Gray on the roster, the 25-year-old will get a lot to learn and deploy on the floor.

With her playmaking on the roll and also shooting percentages skyrocketing, the player would be a big difference maker for the Mist team, who missed out on an explosive player in the inaugural season. Interestingly, her participation in the Unrivalled wouldn’t just help the star individually, but could also prove beneficial for her WNBA side too.
Veronica Burton’s Unrivaled Debut Could Benefit Golden State Valkyries
The Valkyries were the biggest surprise in the 2025 season, making it to the playoffs in their very first season. While the side did well in its inaugural year, now the expectations are high, and for that, the franchise would look for more potent players around Burton.

While Kate Martin, Carla Leite, and Burton are under contract, the side could use Burton’s leverage to recruit. The Valkyries are certainly an exciting destination with fan support and coach of the year winner Natalie Nakase’s game plans. Adding to the same, Burton’s pitching during the Unrivaled league would hand the side an edge in the free agency signings.
While many other teams are also looking to make use of Free agency as major signing pad for the 2026 season, adding a championship-caliber player would be a major achievement for the former Northwestern star would be a major coup.
