Once an Ace, always an Ace. That’s the motto of the WNBA’s Las Vegas franchise. Any former player coming to the Michelob ULTRA Arena is aware of it. Recently, when Kelsey Plum returned, fans warmly welcomed her; some even held banners supporting the former guard.
In a game against the Golden State Valkyries, the city had three of their former representatives on the opposite bench – Natalie Nakase, Kate Martin and Tiffany Hayes. When the guard pair returned to their 2024 home court, fans showed sportsmanship, applauding their former players and now opponents.

As the pair took the court for the warmup, fans gave them a standing ovation followed by thunderous applause. Both players embraced the moment and waved to the fans, respecting the grand welcome.
While the former Atlanta Dream star came out of retirement and signed with the Aces, Iowa’s guard was a surprise pick by the champion side. She went to the 2024 draft night to support her college teammate Caitlin Clark and was selected as the 18th overall pick. Both players proved their selection spot on, clocking significant minutes and delivering heavy game stats.
In the July 12 game, Hayes finished with 16 points, five assists, and two rebounds, while the former Iowa guard scored eight points and collected one rebound coming off the bench. Valks lost the close game by 104-102 following another spirited performance by the expansion team.
For Aces, reigning MVP A’ja Wilson powered her side to a 104-102 win with 34 points and 16 rebounds. The All-Star has been in great form since returning from her wrist injury. Jackie Young supported well with her 30-point and six-assist performance.

Tiffany Hayes And Kate Martin Get Tribute From Aces
The 35-year-old star guard was a backup point guard. She had a very productive season, recording 9.5 points, 2.1 assists, and 2,8 rebounds per game. Her postseason average was even better than with 10.5 points, nearly two steals, three assists, and four rebounds. Recognizing her contribution to the team, the Aces posted a special video for their ‘Sixth Woman of the Year’ Winner.
The 2024 draft pick also received a similar honor. The 23-year-old was a fiery presence on the Aces’ 2024 roster and a fan favorite. Even in her limited game time, the guard scored 2.6 points and made nearly two assists per game. Both players play a key role in the Valkyries’ success in 2025, with more time on the court.
