The WNBA All-Star Game will be held on July 19 at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. Hometown hero Caitlin Clark of the Indiana Fever will headline Team Clark, while star forward Napheesa Collier of the Minnesota Lynx will lead Team Collier.
For the first time, basketball-crazy Indianapolis will stage the midseason classic. Fans expect a highly competitive showdown among the league’s top stars.
Team Clark will clearly enjoy home-court advantage, but that edge could only fuel Team Collier’s drive to pull off an upset. However, one of Clark’s rookie teammates had honest comments ahead of the game.
Sonia Citron On Being Part Of Team Clark
Washington Mystics guard Sonia Citron is making a strong impact in her rookie year after the team selected her as the third overall pick out of Notre Dame.
Citron didn’t hide her true feelings when asked about her mindset ahead of her first All-Star Game
“Yeah, I’m excited. I think we’re young, we got a bunch of shooters, a little bit of everything. (I’m) just really excited to play with Caitlin, with Sabrina, with all the people on our team,” said Citron on the “Between the Lines with Lisa Leslie.”
“I’m only used to playing with the Mystics. So it’s cool to change it up just a little bit, meet new people, get to know them better, and make friends. I’m excited.”

She is averaging 14.5 points, 5.1 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and 1.1 steals, making a strong case for the Rookie of the Year trophy.
The 21-year-old Citron was rewarded with a spot to the All-Star Game because of her strong campaign. She will come off the bench for Team Clark, which will be coached by Sandy Brondello of the New York Liberty.
The Mystics’ newcomer is among the slew of talented playmakers drafted by Clark, including Fever teammate Kelsey Mitchell, the Liberty’s Sabrina Ionescu, the Aces’ Jackie Young, and the Seattle Storm’s Gabby Williams. In a game where speed is an advantage, the deep guard rotation should bode well for Team Clark.
What makes it extra special for Citron is that she’s also teammates with fellow Washington rookie Kiki Irifaen.
Sonia Citron On Familiarity With Caitlin Clark
The All-Star Game will also be a reunion of sorts for Citron and Clark. Not many are aware that they were former teammates on Team USA.
“I have played with a Caitlin before, actually. I played with her four years ago, we both made the U-19 (FIBA) World Cup team. It was before even I got into college so it seems like forever ago,” shared Citron.

Citron helped the Mystics to a narrow 70-68 victory over the Las Vegas Aces on Thursday. She contributed nine points and five rebounds in 38 minutes. She also provided steadiness and poise in the backcourt. The win improved Washington’s record to 10-10.
