The Washington Mystics went up against the Dallas Wings in their last game with high motivation. Unfortunately, the Mystics fell short despite their rookie’s impressive showing and lost 79-71.
The Notre Dame star tallied the Indiana Fever’s rookie phenom Caitlin Clark in a unique record. However, Clark, who has been sidelined from the last few games, is setting a high standard for the next group of WNBA players. And leveling her in itself is one big achievement.
Mystics Star Sonia Citron Levels Caitlin Clark In Rookie Record
Sonia Citron of the Mystics had a career night during the loss against the Wings. Despite the letdown, she became the youngest player in a decade to achieve back-to-back 20-point games. She led her team with 22 points and 10 assists in a hard-fought game, even though the Mystics fell short.

It’s been an impressive week for Citron, who also scored 21 points in a recent win over the Las Vegas Aces. With these standout performances, she’s drawing comparisons to the high-flying Caitlin Clark. Citron also became the only rookie this season to do so with multiple 20-point double-doubles.

After their tough loss to the Wings, the Mystics are sitting at an 8-9 record. Their next game is against the formidable Minnesota Lynx, who boast an impressive 13-2 record.
Mystics Rookie Wins Praise From Head Coach
The Washington Mystics had a tough outing on Saturday night as they fell to the Dallas Wings, even though rookie sensation Sonia Citron put up an impressive fight. She started off a bit slow but really found her groove in the second half and finished the game impressively.
During her 39 minutes of play, she went on 6-of-15 shooting from the field and 3-of-8 from beyond the arc. Wings head coach Chris Koclanes couldn’t help but rave about her performance.
“She’s got it all. Just really impressed with her IQ, and the speed at which she plays, it’s just silky smooth. She can score at all three levels. She just plays at her own tempo. She doesn’t get sped up, and she’s able to handle pressure to set up and use screens… And the fact that she’s a two-way player, I mean, she’s guarding the other team’s best players as well. They got a really good one in Sonia,” Koclanes said(Via X/Twitter).
Citron’s debut season has been quite the spectacle, and she’s already in the conversation for the WNBA Rookie of the Year award. She’s sharing the spotlight with her teammate Kiki Iriafen, who’s also making a great case.
