The Dallas Wings got their two-game winning streak snapped after losing to the Phoenix Mercury, 102-72, on Sunday. While they say their hopes ruined in Phoenix, Wings rookie sensation Paige Bueckers had an unfortunate tackle resulting in a hit on the head.
The Wings had no answer for the duo of Sami Whitcomb and Alyssa Thomas, who both put up monster numbers. Whitcomb scored a career-high 36 points, including 7-of-11 shooting from beyond the arc, while Thomas finished with a triple-double of 15 points, 10 rebounds, and 15 assists. However, Dallas fans were on their toes after witnessing Bueckers taking a hard fall.
Wings Rookie Paige Bueckers Took A Dangerous Hit To The Head
Wings rookie guard Bueckers struggled against Phoenix’s aggressive defense. She scored just 11 points on 3-of-11 shooting and committed three turnovers.
Kalani Brown hit Bueckers in the head as she was going for a layup late in the first quarter. The officials, however, didn’t call a foul, and Bueckers missed the shot. She only played 24 minutes—likely due to the lopsided nature of the game—but the hit still raised concern among fans.

After the game, Wings coach Chris Koclanes assured that there’s no need to worry about the prized newcomer, who’s adjusting to the physicality of the league.
“We talked to her here, she’s feeling okay,” said Koclanes, as quoted by Wings reporter Joey Mistretta.

The Mercury avenged their loss to the Wings, 98-89, on Thursday to improve to 13-6, which is the second-best record in the league, trailing only the Minnesota Lynx. Dallas fell to 6-14 after the loss to Phoenix. The team was led by JJ Quinerly with 18 points, five assists, and two steals.
Paige Bueckers Named To All-Star Game
The 23-year-old Bueckers can’t afford to sit on the sidelines right now. Especially since she was named as a starter in the WNBA All-Star Game at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis on July 19.
She became the first rookie in Wings history to make it as a starter in the midseason showcase. Moreover, with Bueckers and Washington Mystics teammates Sonia Citron and Kiki Iriafen, it marked the first time since 2011 that three rookies were given All-Star nods.
Bueckers has lived up to the hype after being the top overall pick in this year’s draft. While the Wings have struggled to get wins, her production has been impressive. She’s averaging all-around numbers of 18.2 points, 4.2 rebounds, 5.5 assists, and 1.7 steals.
Fans are hoping that Bueckers and Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark could team up in the All-Star Game. They are hooked to the idea of watching the WNBA’s back-to-back first-overall picks go up against each other. All in all, to display their equally explosive style of play.
