Caitlin Clark has been the talking point since arriving in the WNBA. She has broken attendance records, topped the news, and lit up a new generation of fans. And it is safe to say she’s quite possibly one of the most influential rookies the league has ever had.
But with all that press has come a good amount of criticism as well. From fiery arguments about where she stands in Team USA to comments on her overall impact on the league, Clark’s path has created strong opinions on both sides. And now, in a turn of events nobody quite saw coming, one of her most outspoken critics has been appointed head coach of Team Clark at the 2025 WNBA All-Star Game.
Caitlin Clark’s Vocal Critic Set To Coach Her All-Star Team
As mentioned above, one of her most vocal critics has been named the head coach of Team Clark. And that is Minnesota Lynx’s head coach Cheryl Reeve. Yes, that’s right. Clark will be coached by someone who hasn’t always been in her corner.

The WNBA just revealed that Cheryl Reeve will be the coach of Caitlin Clark’s All-Star team. As would be expected, it’s already become one of the most popular headlines of the week. Reeve, who coaches the Minnesota Lynx and has several rings and Coach of the Year accolades to her name, previously publicly criticized the media coverage around Clark.
Most famously, in the lead-up to the 2024 Olympics. She was viewed as among the leadership to drop Clark from Team USA’s final team selection. The decision that promoted universal outrage. For anyone curious as to how Reeve came to coach Clark’s All-Star team? It all comes down to league policy.

According to it, the coach of the team that has the top record at a given point in the season gets to guide the team of the top vote receiver. With the Lynx leading the standings and Clark running away with fan voting, the combination was destined, even if it’s uncomfortable.
Coach Reeve Doesn’t Think Caitlin Clark Is Targeted
Most of the time, individuals have believed that Caitlin Clark has been physically targeted by her WNBA opponents on the court. And Clark has to endure a very physical and exhausting defense from her colleagues. Additionally, there has been controversy regarding the physicality. But according to Coach Cheryl Reeves, that is not the case.
“I don’t think Caitlin Clark is being targeted at all. It’s a good player. You’re going to see [a] team’s best efforts. I do not agree with egregious contact and the things that went down after that kind of stuff. There was mismanagement by the officials that could have prevented some of the things that transpired,” said Reeves (via FanDuel Sports Network)
Though what Reeve has expressed is her opinion, given all she has ever said regarding Clark, this observation that she wasn’t being targeted raised some eyebrows from the fan base of Clark.
