WNBA CBA discussions were among the hottest topics in the 2025 regular season and the offseason, too. Although it attracted much media attention, the Connecticut Sun franchise sale was also one of the league’s ’pending’ issues ahead of the 2026 season.
Along with the closure of the CBA terms, the WNBA also sent positive signals regarding the $300 million offer from the Houston Rockets’ owners. Although, the deal was not official until the league’s governing body approves the move. But according to the recent update, there has been a step forward on the subject.

While the sale and relocation are now confirmed, fans can expect a few changes in the franchise following the Texas takeover.
Changes Expected In WNBA Franchise Following Relocation To Houston
The first and foremost change expected is renaming the franchise the Houston Comets. Houston already had a WNBA franchise that dominated the league’s early years, with Hall of Famers Sheryl Swoopes, Tina Thompson, and Cynthia Cooper. They won four championships in a row but had to wind up operations due to financial issues.
Secondly, the new home of the franchise will be Toyota Center, where the NBA’s Houston Rockets play. This is the biggest upgrade for the team, which played in front of 8,910 fans at Mohegan Sun Arena and now will have more than double the fan capacity with an 18K+ seating capacity arena.

Another change expected for the team is its roster management, with the owner aggressively looking to add more talent with the $7 million salary cap. Players like Brittney Griner signed with the franchise with relocation consideration. Interestingly, the front offices worked in tandem to finalize the 2026 rosters, suggesting the possibility of minor changes in the upcoming season.
