The WNBA is abuzz with a brand new rivalry. After Caitlin Clark’s impeccable rookie season, comparisons started to flood with Angel Reese. And now, coming to 2025, it looks like the Reese-Clark rivalry is making way for a new one. And that is none other than Paige Bueckers vs. Caitlin Clark.
In many ways, Bueckers is bringing back memories of Clark’s rookie season. A rookie herself, Bueckers is making sure that she is standing tall despite her team being in dire straits. Meanwhile, playing against the Indiana Fever, a recent comparison between the two has blown up on the internet.
Fans Lash Out As Weird Comparison Between Paige Bueckers And Caitlin Clark
As the Indiana Fever took on the Dallas Wings, the Rookie of the Year watched from the sidelines. While her team made merry, Bueckers was emphatic with her game as always. She dropped 22 points, making the comparisons between the two even louder. However, things quickly went haywire as a bizarre commentating mistake came to the forefront.
Describing both Bueckers and the Iowa-born, a reporter chimed, “You can tell they are two different styles of players. Paige is getting people involved. Caitlin’s more looking for her shot.”

Now, this was quite the opposite of what the graphics showed. It portrayed Clark having 8.4 assists per game while Bueckers averaged 5.5. Thus, in reality, it is Clark who is more likely to get her mates involved. And social media was abuzz in no time.
“Like can they not read?! The assists stats are right in front of their face,” said a fan.

“Caitlin is earning every inch, while the league is stumbling over itself to usher Paige to the front,” a fan quipped.

“Um what… +3 assists in comparison? genuinely this is like politics where people try to skew their narrative or beliefs in spite of what the facts / numbers show,” chimed in another WNBA enthusiast.

“Both great players. I’d take either on my team. I stopped listening to the dumba**es on tv,” remarked a frustrated fan.

Meanwhile, with a lot of hype around Bueckers, Sophie Cunningham made it clear that the Fever star is still the face of the WNBA.
Sophie Cunningham Defends Caitlin Clark As The Face Of WNBA
Sophie Cunningham has often expressed her affinity for the Iowa native. Meanwhile, owing to her injury this season, a lot of critics have questioned Clark’s superstar status. However, Cunningham is not buying any of it. She recalled how the 23-year-old took the league by storm last year and, in turn, revived the league.

“We have a lot of bad as—s in our league, like hell yeah to that — I’m all for that. But when people try to argue she’s not the face of our league or our league would be where we’re at without her, you’re dumb as s–t. You’re literally dumb as f—k,” Cunningham said on the ‘Show Me Something’ podcast.
Thus, with the WNBA realm filled with exciting banter, fans would want more such comparisons to surface in the long run.
