The 2026 WNBA draft took place quite hastily, as it was already delayed. had a stacked roster. As several young talents prepared to enter the WNBA, excitement reached an all-time high. As a result, the viewership skyrocketed instantly. According to reports from ESPN, this year’s draft garnered the second-highest numbers in terms of viewership.
“The 2026 WNBA draft averaged 1.5 million viewers on ESPN, making it the league’s second-most watched draft ever behind 2024, which was headlined by No. 1 overall pick Caitlin Clark, Angel Reese and others,” ‘Front Office Sports’ reported on ESPN.

With 1.5 million watching the event live, this means that the league had recorded a 20% increase from last year’s numbers. In fact, the numbers even reached an astounding 1.79 million shortly before 8 PM ET. Such a surge in viewership also created history. This marked the second-most-viewed WNBA draft of all time.

This immediately became history as UCLA became the first program to have six first-round picks in the WNBA draft.
Elated about her team, head coach Cori Close stated, “Well, I mean, I sort of do care about this one, actually because No. 1, it helps us in recruiting. I think we’ve really taken a developmental approach to this and to see it come to fruition the way it has is obviously really gratifying.”
