The CBA talks are turning out to be one of the biggest draws of the offseason. While the players are seeking a raise in their salaries and also in the revenue-sharing, there are several misconceptions that have emerged.
Recently, A’ja Wilson debunked the myth about WNBA stars wanting NBA-like salaries. And in the middle of all this, a new 5-on-5 league, Project B, is threatening to impact the WNBA in a concerning manner.
While the WNBA front office is not willing to increase the revenue-sharing ratio, the Saudi-backed league is offering multi-million-dollar dollars to its athletes. As a result, WNBA executives recently expressed deep concerns over the emerging trend of Project B.
WNBA Is Feeling Threatened By Project B
Project B is already making waves. Set to debut in November 2026, the likes of Nneka Ogwumike have already signed up for Project B. And if that was not enough, Alyssa Thomas also followed suit and registered herself for the league.

And such a turn of events has resulted in the WNBA front office feeling threatened. According to reports from Front Office Sports, several WNBA executives have expressed deep concerns.

They also suggested that if the CBA negotiations continue to turn out poorly, many might consider letting go of the season and join the multi-million dollar league immediately.
Now then, at a glance, the league does not seem to be a direct threat to the WNBA. As Project B will be starting from November, it will allow the players to come back in time for the WNBA season.
But with the league offering so much money, things might soon go awry, and players might feel less interested in toiling in the WNBA for a far lesser amount of money. Meanwhile, as the Saudi-backed league continues to make steady progress, the likes of Sophie Cunningham expressed their willingness to join the new league.
WNBA’s Sophie Cunningham Shares Her Honest Take On Switching To Project B
While the exact salaries of Thomas and Ogwumike have not been revealed, it is rumored that Project B will be offering as much as $2 million in salaries to many. Add to that a chunk of their revenue shares that will be up for grabs for the players, too.

Thus, with the CBA talks looking uncertain, Indiana Fever star Sophie Cunningham opened up with her take on the matter.
“I don’t know too much about it. You know, you see stuff on social media, but I also know how social media goes. So you got to take it with a grain of salt. But, you know, if people are going to be paying you multi-million dollar deals, why would you not?” Cunningham said.
